Saturday, July 3, 2010 -
As the crews were finishing up lunch, Company 67 was alerted to the 3000 block of Industry Drive for a brush fire. Engine 671 and Tower 67 arrived within a minute to find a small mulch fire to the rear of the building. The crew extinguished the fire and soaked the area before clearing the scene. As the units were clearing, Tower 67 was alerted to assist Company 76 (West Hempfield), 715 (Mountville), and 719 (Hempfield) with a fire alarm at a church on Marietta Avenue. Arriving units found an odor of gas in the building and upgraded the assignment adding units from 67, 719, 68 (West Lancaster), 84 (Susquehanna #4), 87 (Columbia Consolidated), 78 (Washington Boro), and 79 (Maytown). The crew from Tower 67 split with the interior crew making entry into the structure to assist Engine 762 and the exterior team going to the roof. Engine 671 arrived and secured a secondary water supply with the crew holding in case a suppression line needed to be deployed. The source of the gas was traced back to a pilot light that wasn’t lit. After some ventilation the assignment was scaled back and all units cleared in 30 minutes. During the evening, Tower 67 was invited to the annual fireworks at the Mountville Pool. While on stand-by Tower 67 was sent with the units from 715 and 76 to the 3700 block of Hempland Road for a fire alarm. The units arrived with normal conditions and found a leaking sprinkler pipe with the assignment being placed available.
